We the Living tells the story of Kira Argounova, a fierce and independent spirit who struggles against the collectivism of Soviet Russia during the early 1920's.

Alice O'Connor, better known as Ayn Rand, was a Russian-born American author. Reached famed status for her publications of The Fountainhead (1943) and Atlas Shrugged published in 1957.

Ayn Rand (1905-1982) finished writing her debut novel, We the Living in 1934, but it was rejected several times (despite H.L. Mencken's support) before finally being picked up by Macmillan and published in 1936. The book did not have commercial success until Random House came on board in 1957, and later selling 3 million copies.
