Janet Malcolm. Signed by the author. First edition, first printing. New Haven: Yale University Press, 2007. Both unclipped dust jacket and hardcover are in Fine condition. Jacket is in a mylar wrapper. No writing or markings found in this pristine edition, 227 pp.  Illustrated throughout with ten black-&-white photographs featuring the principals at work and relaxing with friends. Author's notes appended. Illustrated endpapers.

Winner of the PEN/Jacqueline Bograd Weld Award for Biography.

"Janet Malcolm deftly captures Alice B. Toklas's legendary 40-year partnership with the brilliant modernist Gertrude Stein in Two Lives, clearing up a few mysteries along the way including how two Jewish women were able to survive World War II in their provincial French chateau with the help of a Vichy collaborator" (Vogue).

Copies of books bearing Malcolm's signature are scarcer than might be supposed. I found fewer than a half dozen listed for sale as of this writing.
