Eric Ambler (1909-1998) began his writing career in the early 1930's, and quickly established a reputation as a thriller writer of extraordinary depth and originality. Ambler is considered the king of the 20th century political thriller. In this, his 8th book, Ambker writes about a Philadelphia lawyers first big job that looks to be a tedious bore, working through an inheritance case with not traceable heir. The case leads him however to danger and adventure in postwar Greece.
