Thomas Wolfe. First edition, first printing (stated). Dust Jacket: Very Good. An unclipped jacket with original price $5.95 on inside flap. Jacket design by Shiela Berger and illustrations by Martim Avilles. Jacket has wear, some foxing and chipping along the top and bottom spine. Hardcover: Very Good+ NY: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1975. No writing or markings in the book, 121 pp. With black/white illustrations.

This was Wolfe's sixth novel. The book is a satirical crique of modern art and particularly modern art criticism. Wolfe addresses the scope of Modern Art, from its founding days as Abstract Expressionism through its transformations to Pop, Op, Minimal, and Conceptual. If you have ever stared uncomprehendingly at an abstract painting that critics say you ought to enjoy, take heart - the author is on your side.

This is a first printing, in the original dustjacket with the author photograph of Wolfe wearing his iconic white suit.
