David Freeman Hawk. Stayed first edition, first printing. New York: Harper and Row Publishers, 1974. Both unclipped dust jacket and hardcover are in Very Good condition. There is a black mark on two pages towards end of the book with a few dog ear pages. This does not effect reading any of the pages though. The front flyleaf has a bookplate (Merle E. Bredwell).
Paine is a compelling and insightful look at Thomas Paine (1736-1809), author and of one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. This book provides an in-depth look at the life and work of one of America's most influential thinkers and political theorist. Hawke does a great job of capturing the essence of Paine's ideas and how they have shaped American history.
