Ernest Hemingway. Holiday Magazine, March 1951. The magazine is in Near Fine condition in protective wrapper.

Hemingway wrote fables. Yes, really.

In 1951, Holiday magazine published two Ernest Hemingway stories you won't find on most reading lists: "The Good Lion" and "The Faithful Bull." Told like children's fables, they show a gentler, wryer side of the man famous for iceberg prose and bullfights.

A lion who refuses to act like a lion. A bull who loves one thing above all. Simple on the surface, pure Hemingway underneath.

These first appearances in print are rare. Hemingway's magazine work is some of the most overlooked material for collectors, and a vintage issue of Holiday from this era is a genuine piece of literary history, not just a back issue.
