Ernest Hemingway. First edition thus. The Centennial Edition. New York: Mariner Classics, 2023. Both unclipped dust jacket and hardcover are in Near Fine condition. No writing or markings found inside, 58 pp. Foreword by John N. Maclean and illustrated by Chris Wormell.

A handsome Centennial Edition of one of Ernest Hemingway’s most celebrated short stories.

Big Two-Hearted River follows Nick Adams on a solitary fishing and camping expedition in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Beneath the story’s deceptively simple account of nature, trout fishing, and solitude lies Hemingway’s characteristic use of restraint and implication—the literary technique often associated with his “iceberg theory.”

Published one hundred years after the period in which the story was written, this 2023 edition features a substantial foreword by John N. Maclean and specially commissioned illustrations by acclaimed British engraver Chris Wormell. The edition presents Hemingway’s landmark work as both an important piece of American literary history and a beautifully produced modern collectible. (Literary  Hub).

A particularly appealing edition for collectors of Ernest Hemingway, modern American literature, fishing literature, and illustrated literary editions.
