Norman Mailer. First American edition, first printing. With an "R" in a circle on the copyright page indicative of a Rinehart first printing. New York: Rinehart and Co., 1951. The unclipped dust jacket, in Very Good condition, is complete with the original price ($3.00) and red and black designs but with two small tears on the spine and rear jacket, which have been taped on the inside of the dust jacket. The hardcover is in Very Good+ condition. No writing or markings found in the book, 312 pp. Preceeded the UK edition. From a first print run of 20,000 copies. With six reviews on rear inside flap of dust jacket. 

The story of an amnesiac WWII veteran who aspires to write a novel. Mailer was in the army himself, he tried to obtain a deferment but ended up serving. The second book by the author who Sinclair Lewis called, "the greatest writer to come out of his generation." Mailer was award two Pulitzer Prizes for "Executioner's Song" and "Armies of the Night."
