Ernest Hemingway. First edition thus. New York: The Modern Library, 1932. NAP. Both unclipped, scarce dust jacket, in a mylar protective wrapper, and hardcover are in Near Fine condition. No writing or markings found in this well-preserved edition, 355 pp. The introduction is written by Ford Madox Ford. Some minor chipping on top of spine, otherwise, one of the nicer DJ we've seen for this edition!

The title of Hemingway's work is taken from a poem by 16th-century English dramatist George Peele. A Farewell to Arms is about a love affair between the expatriate American Henry and Catherine Barkley against the backdrop of the First World War, cynical soldiers, fighting and the displacement of populations.

Hemingway's classic story was originally published in 1929. This Modern Library Edition (#19) was published in 1932, with no other dates on copyright page or on the inside of the dust jacket.
