This was John le Carre's 6th book. A very handsome, collectible copy. Le Carre's uniquely non-espionage, and semi-autobiographical. His third novel, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1963), became an international best-seller and remains one of his best-known works.
This is not a love story it is a le Carré love story. The story has autobiographical elements, as it is based on the author's relationship with James and Susan Kennaway following the breakdown of le Carré's first marriage. The novel was published in the same year as his divorce.
