The story of Forster's two visits to Dewas (a vanished civilization) in India, which strongly influenced his masterpiece "A Passage to India" published in 1924. During those visits in 1912-1913 and 1921, he worked as the private secretary to Tukojirao III, the Maharaja of the state of Dewas Senior.
