The fabulous and unexpected story follows the lives of an elderly couple, Axl and Beatrice, who live in a fictional post-Arthurian England in which no-one is able to retain long-term memories.
Ishiguro is a Japanese-born British novelist known for his lyrical tales of regret fused with subtle optimism. In 2017 he won the Nobel Prize for Literature for his works that “uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world.” The author also won the Man Booker Prize for Remains of the Day in 1989 and this is his eighth novel.
