Robert Cutler (1895-1974) was the first United States National Security Advisor. The position was created for him by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Cutler served in the United States Army, eventually being promoted to Brigadier General. Among his many honors, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal and the Medal of Freedom.
