The book title is in yellow, denoting a first state jacket. Jacket designed by Carol Devine Carson and Chip Kidd. Translated from Spanish by Edith Grossman. Has the following publication marking "4/88" on rear flap of jacket and "FPT" on front. Has book-of-the-month club main selection stated on lower, front inside flap. Hardcover is in Near Fine condition. A beautiful book with black cloth and gold lettering on cover and spine. Other than former owner inscription on flyleaf page, no writing or markings found in the book, 348 pp. The book and jacket meet all the first edition points. In this particular copy, the first page is attached to the inside front cover (this does not look like it was done by previous owner).
First American edition of the author's work, which ranks as one of the great novels of the last half of the twentieth century.
