Volume three of The Border Trilogy, along with All the Pretty Horse (1992), The Crossing (1994). McCarthy won a National Book Award for All the Pretty Horses and a Pulitzer Prize for The Road (2007).

The award-winning author (who sadly just passed away today 6/23/23) novel is beautiful and filled with sorrow, humor, and awe, Cities of the Plain is a genuine American epic. The trilogy revolves around the coning of age and adventures of two young cowboys, John Grady Cole and Billy Parham.
