Winner of the 2014 Man Booker Prize. "The Narrow Road to the Deep North" is a novel about Dorrigo Evans, an Australian doctor, who is haunted by the memories of a love affair with his uncle's wife. He is a survivor of a Japanese POW camp during WWII. Was part of a group who built the Burma Death Railway in 1943.
Moves deftly from the POW camp to contemporary Australia, from the experiences of Dorrigo and his comrades to those of the Japanese guards, this savagely beautiful novel tells a story of death, love, and family, exploring the many forms of good and evil, war and truth, guilt and transcendence, as one man comes of age and prospers, only to discover all that he has lost.
Written by Richard Flanagan, a multi-award winning Australian author, best known for this work. His other works include "Death of the River Guide", and "The Sound of One Hand Clapping".
The book turned mini series is currently streaming (as of May 2025) on Amazon Prime. Great story line and wonderful acting with beautiful cinema photography.
