First edition of this classic Huxley novella. Octavo, original half cloth. It tells the fictional account of John Rivers, a student physicist in the 1920's who was hired out of college as a laboratory assistant to Henry Maartens. It is packed with literary and socio-historical references and allusions. Huxley portrays various aspects of his ideology about subjects such as God, sex, history, literature, intellect and death. An unsurprisingly philosophical and exploratory novel dealing with the tangled lives of a Nobel winning genius, his wife, and the man who came between them.
