Richard Knox. First edition. New Haven: Yale University Press, 1957. Both unclipped dust jacket and hardcover are in Very Good+ condition. Other than former owner signature only leaf page, there are no other markings or writing in the book, 280 pp.

Oedipus, in Greek mythology, the king of Thebes who unwittingly killed his father and married his mother. Homer related that Oedipus's wife and mother hanged herself when the truth of their relationship became known, though Oedipus apparently continued to rule at Thebes until his death

Bernard Knox (1914-2010) was an English classicist, author, and critic who became an American citizen. He was the first director of the Center for Hellenic Studies. In 1992 the National Endowment for the Humanities selected Knox for the Jefferson Lecture, the U.S. federal government's highest honor for achievement in the humanities. This is Bernard Knox's first book that has remained in print to this day.
