This was the legendary bestselling author's first book in more than a decade, about a media firestorm swirling around a vast hole in Texas and one obscure NASA scientist who gets swept up in the vortex and becomes a national figure overnight. "Derived from a Kirkus review: At 88, Wouk (The Will to Live On, 2000) writes with the brightness of a 45-year-old kid hell-bent on fun about subatomic physics."
Herman Wouk (1915 - 2019) was an American author best known for historical fiction such as The Caine Mutiny (1951) which won the Pulitzer Prize. His other major works include The Winds of War and War and Remembrance, historical novels about World War II, and non-fiction such as This Is My God.
The Washington Post called Wouk, who cherished his privacy, "the reclusive dean of American historical novelists". Historians, novelists, publishers, and critics who gathered at the Library of Congress in 1995 to mark Wouk's 80th birthday described him as an American Tolstoy.
