The book is a satire on the medical and psychoanalytic worlds of 1960's Manhattan.

This was the authors fourth book, including "Portrait of Hemingway." She was a staff writer for the New Yorker stating in 1945, working there for seven decades! She won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for her 1984 novel Foreign Affairs.
