Mueller's book is an exploration of the ways in which six writers present and seek to resolve six religious problems:

- Vocation
- The Fall and it's Fruits
- Judgement
- The Remnant
- Suffering
- Love 💕

These themes are studied (each chapter) by James Joyce, Albert Calmus, Franz Kafka, Ignacio Silone, William Faulkner, and Graham Greene.

Each chapter then presents the study of the theme, first in the authors chosen novel and then as delt with in the Bible.
