Nathaniel Benchley. Stated first edition. Signed by the author. New York: McGraw-Hill Book Company, 1961. Both unclipped dust jacket and hardcover are in Very Good+ condition. No writing, other than authors signature and a number on flyleaf, or markings found in the book, 228 pp. There is some chipping on the spine of the DJ.

Nathaniel Benchley’s humorous novel centers around a Cold War-era situation in which a Soviet submarine accidentally runs aground off the coast of Cape Cod, on a fictional Nantucket. The story follows the chaos that ensues as the local townspeople encounter the stranded crew of the submarine, and both the Russians and Americans attempt to navigate this awkward and potentially dangerous situation. The novel explores themes of miscommunication, absurdity in international relations, and the humorous side of Cold War paranoia.

Norman Jewison's 1966 Cold War movie, "The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming was based on the book. The authors father was well-known humorist, Robert Benchley.
