This is the second and third parts of the Lord of the Rings, the first part being the Fellowship of the Ring.
The addition book, The Hobbit, was Tolkien's first book, originally published in 1937. Jacket design by Rita Marshall (all four editions).
The Lord of the Ring consists of six books, it is not a trilogy as many believe. The original book was published in Britain in by the London firm George Allen and Unwin on July 29, 1954. The American edition followed on October 21st of the same year, published by Houghton and Mifflin (Boston).
