This was only the third book published by Dahl, which became a bestseller. He who would of course go on to write some of the best known children's books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory four years later in 1964. This book included 11 short stories for adults, including "Royal Jelly", "William and Mary" and an early version of what was to become Danny: the Champion of the World. Dahl was married to actress Patricia Neal.
