Thomas Mann. First edition, sixth printing. Two volume box set. No dust jackets, clamshell box. Both hardcover books are in Near Fine condition. Each has a beautiful ex Libri sticker on inside front cover. No writing or markings found in the books.

This handsome two-volume boxed set of Thomas Mann’s Joseph in Egypt (Joseph in Ägypten) presents one of the Nobel Prize–winning author’s most celebrated works of historical fiction. Published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1938, this set is a first edition, sixth printing, housed in its original publisher’s slipcase.

  • Condition: Near Fine. Volumes show minimal wear, bindings are tight, pages clean, slipcase lightly rubbed but sound.
  • Format: Two volumes in the publisher’s original decorated slipcase.
  • Significance: Part of Mann’s monumental Joseph and His Brothers cycle, a retelling of the biblical story of Joseph in rich, literary prose. This edition marked Mann’s growing readership in America following his exile from Nazi Germany.

A striking collectible set for admirers of Mann, 20th-century literature, and fine press editions.
