This was the sixth novel by the author. It is a collection of six short stories, including The Adulterous Woman," "The Renegade," "The Silent Men," "The Guest," "The Artist at Work," and "The Growing Stone. Camus had won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1957 shortly before publication.
