This was Lowry's final novel published posthumously. Seven hundred pages of notes and drafts were left in 1952 and not returned to before his death in 1957. The novel was edited by his wife Margie Bonner Lowry who was also a novelist. Also working on the novel was his biographer, Douglas Day.
The book is about a trip to Mexico in 1945 with his wife. He is best known for his 1947 novel Under the Volcano, which was voted No. 11 in the Modern Library 100 Best Novels list.
